Editorial features are one of the many rewards in PR, because features (blurbs, mentions, full articles, interviews) are not easy to obtain. It is safe to say that 90-95% of time you must have strong media relationships to convince the editor, journalist, producer, program director, etc. that your clients are worthy of notoriety – especially when they are new or unknown; and sometimes even the relationships do not guarantee an interview, appearance or write up. Not necessarily personal (usually), just the nature of the business.
A significant amount of time and effort is put into researching which media outlets fit your client’s audience and vision, generating the appropriate contact information (names, emails, and social media accounts), pitching the client’s brand and products to the media, and last but never least following up after the letters and releases have been sent. The goal is to secure as many branding opportunities as possible, to expand the client’s consumer reach and visibility. Not an easy feat, but nothing worthy having should be easy.
To see my clients represented in publications, hear their interviews on the radio, or receive recognition at a special event or award ceremony, is truly a wonderful feeling. If they did not believe in my work ethic or brand, Lafayette Media, I would not have the opportunity to experience such great achievements. The results are rewards and worth every sleepless night, countless hours on the computer, and numerous unanswered emails, phone calls, DMs (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter), and Tweets.
THANK YOU to each of my clients – past and present – for believing in me and Lafayette Media!
